|On 17 February 2016, over 90 Diamond Jubilee scholars from the 2015 cohort came to the newly refurbished Savoy Place, London, many with family and friends, to share in their success and see them receive their certificates from their donors.|
This was the first time that the scholars who had achieved either 3 A’s at A Level, 3 'A' grade Advanced Highers, 5 'A' grade Highers or an International Baccalaureate Diploma at 36 points or above and been accepted on an IET accredited engineering or technology degree course starting in Autumn 2015 had met.
Iris Hutchings, Scholarships Account Manager, opened the ceremony with short introductions to some of the members of the Diamond scholar’s council and invited the Diamond winners to come and meet the scholar’s council after the ceremony.
Michelle Richmond, IET Director of Membership and Professional Development gave a very inspiring speech about the IET.
The presentation of certificates to the scholars followed, with short introductions from the following donors:
The IET Great Exhibition Scholarships –Nigel Williams, Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851
IET Diamond Jubilee Scholarship for Women supported by Siemens – Lisa Nicholas, Siemens
IET Diamond Jubilee Scholarship supported by BAE Systems– Ray Ahjack, BAE Systems
IET Diamond Jubilee Scholarship supported by the ERA Foundation - Sir John O’Reilly, ERA Foundation
IET Diamond Jubilee Scholarship supported by BT – Paul O’Brien
IET Diamond Jubilee Scholarship – Jeremy Watson, IET Deputy President
Nigel Fine, IET Chief Executive and Secretary closed the ceremony and congratulated the winners.
There were IET stands from Career Manager, Communities and IET Campus, Education and Membership. The scholars were really enthusiastic when talking to the staff of the IET and clearly wanted to know how to get involved and engage more with what the IET has to offer.
We look forward to the scholars’ progression and careers over the coming years.
