The late P S Hudswell, a former IET member, left a substantial bequest to provide awards in support of research undertaken by members in the fields of electrical, electronic or manufacturing engineering, to assist IET members with research work leading to the award of a doctorate. The research programme must be undertaken outside the applicant’s home country. Applicants must be in the first or second year of the research programme.
2013 winner - Wassif Shabbir
Thesis title: Modelling, control and optimisation of hybrid electric vehicles
Wassif, originally from Sweden, is a doctoral student at Imperial College in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
2011 winner - Charlotte Lücking
Thesis title: The Orbital Dynamics of High Area-to-Mass Ratio Spacecraft and Applications
Charlotte is originally from Germany and studied Aerospace Engineering at the Technical University of Berlin after which she completed an MSc in Astronautics and Space Engineering at Cranfield University. Her research focuses on applying new insights into the orbital dynamics of high area-to-mass ratio spacecraft to the development of a passive de-orbiting device for medium Earth orbit satellites. Next to the theoretical part of her research she is directing a team of undergraduate students to develop a technology demonstrator CubeSat for this novel device.
