Awards for younger professionals

Mike Sargeant Award

 

The Mike Sargeant Award presented annually to the young professional who is judged to have made the most significant progress in their career over a number of years.  The award consists of a certificate and £500 cash, given in memory of Mike Sargeant.

 

Young professionals

You may have shown exceptional leadership in developing a project, have contributed creatively when developing a new product or service, or have demonstrated exceptional commitment to engineering / technology through your academic or professional development. To be eligible, you will need to forward appropriate evidence of your career achievement to your employer who must make the nomination on your behalf (obviously providing verification in the process).

 

Employers

By nominating a young professional for the award you have the opportunity to reward their efforts, and help them to gain recognition for their high ability in their chosen field of engineering / technology.

(Please note that exceptional achievement demonstrated in the previous year is recognized via the Sir Henry Royce Award).

 

How to nominate a candidate

To make a nomination, please complete the on-line  nomination form on the right.  Please ensure that a 'curriculum vitae' or CV is attached to to the nomination form.  We welcome nominations for women and men from around the world. You do not need to be an IET Member to make a nomination or be nominated.

 

Awards ceremony   

The winner of the award will be invited to attend the IET Ambition and Achievement Awards ceremony, which will take place in London on 22 November 2012.  This high profile event will be attended by influential people offering excellent networking opportunities and providing the winner with an opportunity to raise their profile within the engineering industry.

 

 

2011 Mike Sargeant Award winner: Matthew Wilson

 

Matthew Wilson photo Matthew Wilson is CEO of Crosby Communications plc, Liverpool.  Matthew founded Crosby Communications at the age of 19 and is regarded as a highly motivated, young entrepreneur and renowned expert in the telecom industry amongst his peers. Through his work with the IET within the Young Professionals and other technical groups within the Merseyside and Western Cheshire local network, he has been able to pass on his telecommunications and computing principles via seminars and visits to help inspire numerous students and helping to promote Science and Engineering to the general public.
