About the lecture
Crossrail - Vital Innovative British Infrastructure Delivering Long-term Economic Growth
Crossrail is Europe’s largest construction project. When it is complete at the end of 2018, the project will increase London's public transport capacity by 10% and bring an additional 1.5 million people within 45 minutes travelling time of the capital.
Over a million consistent CAD drawings in a unique, shared knowledge life-cycle Building Information Model inform 25 main design contracts. Eight 1000 tonne tunnelling machines are currently threading 26 miles of tunnels through a congested ancient city with one of the world's most complex utility, sewer, underground and building foundation environments.
Terry Morgan, Crossrail Chairman, will explore the design, engineering and social challenges involved in creating this £15 billion, 73 mile, eight new-station railway.
He will ask ‘How do we improve our efficiency of delivering these colossal infrastructure projects?’ and ‘What leading edge is needed to overcome the technical challenges? ‘
