Map of Collingwood College at Durham University>

The conference will be held at Collingwood College, one of Durham University’s newer colleges. Durham city is visually stunning, with a wealth of historic interests, yet small enough to explore easily on foot. The skyline is dominated by the cathedral and Durham castle, which is said to be the finest example of Norman architecture in the world and for which it has been designated as a World Heritage site.
Getting to Durham is easy by road, rail, or air. Durham is on the East Coast main railway line and has excellent international air links via Newcastle airport, which serves a large number of domestic and international destinations.

Few counties have such variety of landscape as Durham. From the North Pennines in the west to the North Sea Coast in the east, there are pleasures to suit all tastes.

At its heart lies Durham City which is visually stunning, with a wealth of historic interest, yet still small enough to explore easily on foot. Durham Cathedral dominates the skylines of Durham and is said to be the finest example of Norman architecture in the world. Together with Durham Castle, they both stand high on the old City peninsula above the loop of the River Wear, in what has now been designated as a World Heritage site. The Castle itself has a magnificent Great Hall which we propose for your Conference Dinner.

Around the City visitors can watch rowers competing along the river, appreciate the many historical buildings, or enjoy a relaxing lunch in one of the cosmopolitan bars and restaurants, where they will receive a great northern welcome.

Getting to Durham is easy with excellent road, rail, sea, and air links. As a major stop on the efficient East Coast mainline, Durham is just 2 hours 35 minutes from central London and 1 hour 40 minutes from Edinburgh. Durham's Station is ideally located in the city, only 1 mile from the Durham Colleges.

Newcastle International and Durham Tees Airport are both within a 30 minutes drive from Durham. Newcastle is the UK's fastest growing regional airport and has recently benefited from a £7 million extension programme. With several low cost carriers including (but not limited to) easyJet, Ryanair, BMI Baby and British Airways, delegates can enjoy direct flights from both domestic and international destinations.
