IG Nobel event (image)

4 April 2013 | IET London: Savoy Place, UK

The Ig Nobel Prizes honour achievements that first make people laugh, and then make them think. The prizes are intended to celebrate the unusual, honour the imaginative — and spur people's interest in science, medicine and technology.

Every year, in a gala ceremony in Harvard's Sanders Theatre, 1200 splendidly eccentric spectators watch the winners step forward to accept their Prizes.

The Ig Nobel Tour brings that laughter to Europe, and the IET will host the show on 4 April 2013 at IET London: Savoy Place.

"Last, but not least, there are the Ig Nobel awards. These come with little cash, but much cachet, and reward those research projects that 'first make people laugh, and then make them think'" - Nature

Several Ig Nobel winners, and other scientists who have done things just as improbably impressive, will try to explain what they did and why they did it, and will field questions.
