Rick Edwards

Presenter, DJ and erstwhile Hollyoaks extra (he’s still a massive fan), Rick Edwards presents Free Speech, a live monthly debate show led by audience tweets.

He was a key part of Channel 4’s Paralympics presenting team and has since hosted much of the channel’s athletics coverage.

Whilst studying natural sciences at Cambridge, Rick performed stand-up and in sketch shows before becoming a regular face on T4 and E4. As host of Freshly Squeezed and T4 On the Beach, Rick honed his live presenting and interview skills, hosting game-shows and fronting movie, music and sports programmes.

Rick has since presented a documentary about Oscar Pistorius, earning the highest ratings for a documentary in BBC3’s history, and spoken at TEDx Houses of Parliament; his well-received speech was entitled ‘How to get young people to vote.’

His political interests have also led him to write his first book, None of the Above, an analysis of why people should vote and how to encourage them to do so as a counter to other, more sceptical voices.

Regularly writing on media, young people and politics for the Huffington Post and the Evening Standard, Rick also has a monthly fashion column in the Observer Magazine.

He has also written a series of comedy shorts starring Tim Key and Tom Basden, and a standalone film - Burger Van Champion - for Channel 4 described by Time Out as ‘funny, touching and superbly written.’ He is a regular member of the Observer’s Ethical Awards judging panel.
