Entries to the IET Software in Design Innovation Award category are welcomed from organisations: universities, clients, consulting engineers, contractors, suppliers and component manufacturers.
The Software in Design Award will recognise and reward the innovative use of advanced software techniques within an engineering design process.
The Software in Design category welcomes innovations at any stage of development. Entries are encouraged where there has been the application of innovative software methods and tools as part of the development of an engineering product in one or more of the following or related areas:
- Modelling: Gaining insight into the product and/or its operational environment by the use of models
- Simulation: Enabling detailed design and performance analysis of the product within a software environment prior to the creation of a physical prototype.
- Data analysis: Optimising the product design through the innovative use of data capture and analysis tools.
- Automated Testing: Use of software tools to actively explore the operational characteristics of a product
Please note
This category is not for an innovative product design per se as that is covered by the Product Design Innovation Award category.
About The MathWorks
The MathWorks is the world's leading developer of technical computing software for engineers and scientists in industry, government, and education.
With an extensive product set based on MATLAB and Simulink, The MathWorks provides software and services to solve challenging problems and accelerate innovation in automotive, aerospace, communications, financial services, biotechnology, electronics, instrumentation, process, and other industries.
The MathWorks produces software for technical computing and Model-Based Design for engineers, scientists, mathematicians, and researchers.
Their two core products are MATLAB®, used for performing mathematical calculations, analysing and visualising data, and writing new software programs; and Simulink®, used for modelling and simulating complex dynamic systems, such as a vehicle's automatic transmission system. They also produce more than 80 additional tools for specialised tasks such as processing images and signals and analysing financial data.
The MathWorks was founded in 1984 and employs more than 1,500 people worldwide, with headquarters in Natick, Massachusetts.
