08 December 2009 | IET London: Savoy Place & Vue Cinemas, 02 Arena

Welcome to the inaugural JLB Workshop and the annual JLB Lecture for 3D Technology with international special guest speaker, Hollywood producer, Charlotte Huggins.

“Today, 3D is clearly on its way to the mass market.” - Howard Stringer, Sony, 2009

The History behind the JLB lecture

During the early decades of the last century, Baird was one of several inventors in Europe and the U.S. who were in a neck-and-neck race to claim the title of ‘first’ to develop the technology to transmit and receive moving pictures, television. It was Baird, however, whom Britain recognizes as the pioneer who was the first in the world to demonstrate the technology as early as 1925. In fact, colour television, stereoscopic television and television by infra-red light were all demonstrated by Baird before 1930. His transmission of the image of a face across the Atlantic in 1928 was epoch-breaking, but as it was never repeated or developed further, it was merely a demonstration.

I hope you enjoy this year’s JLB programme and find the 3D programme interesting and relevant.
Registering for the JLB Workshop entitles you to join the free IET Networking Thames River Cruise from Savoy Place to the Vue Cinemas, O2 Arena for the evening 3D lecture.
