This was a two day conference organised by members of the IET’s Healthcare Technologies Network Executive Team in collaboration with supporting organisations. With a membership consisting of both hospital based clinical sciences and industry based engineering, the event’s aim was to bring together both the developers and the users/purchasers of medical electrical devices and technology.

Day one of this event looked at the reality of medical technology today and considered wireless and non-wireless networking in hospitals. Day two focused on the move of healthcare from the hospital to the home. There was a discussion on what is achievable and how technology can support this.

All presentations are available to view on the programme page.

Network Background

The IET’s Healthcare Technologies Network pools together expertise from clinical sciences, engineering, information & computer science, and bioinformatics. It is the coherent focus of the Network in this highly interdisciplinary field that makes it unique within the IET. Its members are actively involved in various British Standards Institute Committees. The Network is also linked with the Association of Institutions concerned with Medical Engineering (AIME), which aims to promote medical engineering as a profession and co-ordinate activities across its many disciplines. The Institution of Engineering and Technology provides the current Chair and Secretariat for AIME.
