“I’d like to welcome you to the IET’s Security for Mobile Devices seminar. Mobile security is a huge topic compared with 10 years ago. Mobile phones now touch every aspect of our lives and is increasingly taking the central role in control of our everyday activities from our homes, cars and work place.

"GSM has been the underpinning technology for most mobility for a while now but how long can we rely on security designed well over 20 years ago?

"What happens when new machine-to-machine services sit on top of old technology?

"Mobile devices are becoming much more enticing for cyber criminals and it won’t be a surprise that the bad guys use their own mobile devices as much as anyone, making forensics a key topic. For users, they are being told that they need security software for mobile devices, but is it really necessary? Is malware really the threat that we’re told it is and how will the traditional anti-virus industry evolve into new more secure platforms?

"Unfortunately mobile devices leave a huge gaping hole in corporate policies and companies have struggled to deal with the problem. Recently, the concept of BYOD – Bring Your Own Device has taken hold. Although appearing to solve problems for both the business and the user, it brings additional challenges which could be just as much of an issue for security.

"This day will bring together government speakers and leading security professionals to discuss developments in mobile forensics, creating effective and sustainable policies and addressing challenges for the future. I’m delighted to be involved and hope to welcome key players from around the industry to London on 20 June.”
