| Renewable energy and the role of Power electronics in the low carbon economyProfessor Frede Blaabjerg |
Frede was employed at ABB-Scandia, Randers, from 1987-1988. He became an assistant professor in 1992 at Aalborg University, in 1996 and associate professor and in 1998 a full professor in power electronics and drives.
In 2000 he was visiting professor in University of Padova, Italy and he became a part-time programme research leader at Research Center Risoe in wind turbines. In the period of 2006-2010 he was the dean of the faculty of engineering, science and medicine at Aalborg University, Denmark.
His research areas are in power electronics, static power converters, a/c drives, switched reluctance drives, modelling, characterisation of power semiconductor devices and simulation, power quality, wind turbines, custom power systems and green power inverter.
Since 2006 he has been Editor in Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics as well he is the distinguished lecturer for the IEEE Industry Applications Society from 2010 to 2012. He became IEEE Fellow in 2003.
| New power semiconductor technologies and trendsGourab Majumdar |
Gourab Majumdar received Bachelor of Technology degree in electrical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, India in 1977 and Doctor of Engineering degree in information technology from Kyshuu Institute of Technology (KIT), Fukuoka, Japan in 2005.
Currently, he is working as Senior Chief Engineer of Power Device Works, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Japan. He has published many technical papers on advanced power devices such as IGBTs (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors) and IPMs (Intelligent Power Modules) and holds several patents in the related fields.
He is a recipient of the prestigious National Invention Award in Japan in 2005 for invention of the IPM’s fundamental concept and has also received several other awards for contribution in development and commercialisation of various generations of the IPM product family.
He also serves as a key organising committee member of various international conferences related to power semiconductor technology such as PCIM and ISPSD.
