This year's venue was in a central location in the heart of Glasgow City Centre, and only 15 minutes from Glasgow International Airport and a short taxi ride  from both Glasgow Central and Queen Street stations.

After dinner speaker

This year the after dinner speaker was Richard Noble OBE and the topic was the 'UK Land Speed Record Challenge.'




The IET 2015 Power Academy Essay Challenge

Every year, the Power Academy invites scholars to write a mini-essay on a chosen topic.

The winners were announced at the Power Academy Dinner on 16 July 2015 and they received an invitation to attend the IET Annual Dinner on 18 February 2016 and accommodation in a London Hotel.

The top two essayists will be invited to a Power Industry Conference in Europe in the Summer of 2016.              

This year, scholars were invited to write 700 words on the following topic:


A sudden unexpected major breakthrough in battery fuel cell technology has led to the following scenario

The main Japanese and Asian car manufacturers have reported that engine powered batteries will last for 600 miles before recharging, will not add to the cost of the car and can be charged up rapidly.

As a result, all new cars from January 2017 will be only manufactured with battery powered engines. Discuss the implications of this for the power and related sectors.          



The winners, of which third place was tied, were:-  Murray Wilson, Mohammad Daemi, Andrew Sweeney & Joshua Olaleye.
