RTS 2010 has collaborated with the Birmingham Science City Energy Efficiency & Demand collaborative research package, which is funded by Advantage West Midlands (AWM) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). It is one of four Birmingham Science City collaborative packages involving the Universities of Birmingham and Warwick.

Some £9.5m will be invested in leading-edge equipment which is to be accessible to any interested users, from industry as well as academia. It is anticipated that this investment will result in various outputs that will benefit the West Midlands region, including the leverage of revenue from public and private sources, creation of jobs and companies, business support and issue of patents/licenses.

As part of this research package the Birmingham Centre for Rail Research and Education (BCRRE) is proud to announce the opening of its Energy Systems Integration Laboratory (ESIL) located in the Electronic, Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the University of Birmingham. To mark the occasion a drinks reception, and tour of the new faculty will take place on Wednesday, 14th April. All interested parties are welcome to attend the opening.
