Alan C Smith

Alan has spent 30 years in the UK MoD’s research laboratories which subsequently became DERA, the Defence Evaluation & Research Agency, and then QinetiQ.

At MoD/QinetiQ Alan was responsible for research management and consultancy in communications technology (Physical Layer), antennas, system optimisation and concept development. For 15 years he was the UK/MoD Technical Authority for the Army’s tactical milsatcom equipment procurement and risk-reduction programmes.

Alan is an Assessor for the accreditation of company training schemes and was a Senior Mentor for QinetiQ’s Initial Professional Development programme. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology; the Institute of Physics and the Royal Astronomical Society.
