The field of safety critical systems is becoming of increasing importance and includes all those processes, products and services where a breakdown or design fault might lead to death or injury to people, loss or damage to property, or damage to the environment. Following the success of the events held annually since 1992 the lnstitution of Engineering and Technology (formerly the IEE) is organising a 16th Residential Course to be held at the Møller Centre, Churchill College, Cambridge from Tuesday, 30 October to Friday, 2 November 2007.
The 16th year of this highly popular course on the application of IEC 61508 provides an extensive and authoritative account of the requirements for functional safety. The course presenters are experts in their field and can speak with authority on the interpretation of the standard covering the technical, management, assessment and competence issues together with the associated safety regulatory implications and the potential future changes to the standard. Three of the speakers are directly involved in the ongoing development of IEC 61508. The outcome is an understanding of how IEC 61508 should be interpreted and applied. Opportunities also exist to network with attendees from a range of industry sectors.
