The 18th Institution of Engineering and Technology professional development course on
Safety Critical Systems
29 June - 2 July 2010, The Møller Centre, Cambridge, UK

Introduction

What do past delegates say?
“Probably the best multi-day course I've been on … Thanks to all involved in organising it!”

The field of safety critical systems incorporates all processes, products and services where a breakdown or design fault may lead to death or injury to people, loss or damage to property, or damage to the environment.

This highly popular course provides an extensive and authoritative account of the requirements for functional safety. The course presenters are experts in their fields and speak with authority on the interpretation of the international standard IEC 61508.

As a delegate you will gain an understanding of how to interpret and apply IEC 61508. You will be introduced to the technical, management, assessment and competence issues together with the associated safety regulatory implications, and changes to the new edition of the standard.

Delegates receive a copy of the IEC 61508 standard, other related reference publications and a copy of the course notes.

Who should attend?

This course is produced for the IET Functional Safety Network and will benefit engineers who:

  • are approaching safety-related systems for the first time

  • will be taking project management responsibility and wish to ensure that they are aware of recent developments in this field

  • have an understanding in specific areas of safety-related system technology but who wish to widen their knowledge base
