About the conference
Returning for its fifth successful year this year’s conference will continue to question and advise on the ways in which the smart meter revolution can become a reality.
Progress has been made in the last year and the plans for UK wide smart metering implementation are gathering pace.
Both the UK government and industry leaders have progressed from considering the ‘why’s’ and ‘if’s’ of a smart meter revolution to now concentrate on the arguably more tricky and critical decisions based on “how” and in particular, “what’s the business model and how can it be implemented, kept secure and functioning effectively?”
Day one: Tuesday 17 April 2012
The governmental and regulatory environment
Presentations will cover the fundamentals of the smart metering implementation plan and the roll out of smart metering.
Topics will cover the policy background, the progress made so far, potential operational models, technical specifications and the regulatory framework as well as common supplier commitments for smart meter roll-out and a look ahead to the next phase of the programme.
Up-scaling success
The programme will provide insight into real case studies of 'small' scale smart meter roll out projects highlighting the challenges faced and how they were overcome be they logistical, technical hardware or software, installation, interoperability and consumer engagement and how this might be replicated on a 'larger' national and international scale.
Day two: Wednesday 18 April 2012
Communications and security
A series of technical topics covering:
Technology – data, privacy and security
A review of the popular data communication technologies that are being used worldwide including: Zigbee, Wireless Mbus and Bluetooth Low Energy. Presentations explore how and where they are being used, their risks and benefits and the industry standards that underpin this important area.
There is a potentially huge market here for a variety of industries, from energy suppliers/ distributors, to communications to data handling and security to software interface specialists.
This event will provide key insight and knowledge from industry thought leaders about the future of smart meters and the commercial opportunities available to you now and in the future whilst Identifying the potential data security risks and the solutions available to prevent them after all customers will only accept the new technology and change if its proven to be reliable and secure.
