International Conference on Smart Grids
The LaLiT Ashok, Bangalore, India
31 May 2011
About the conference
The Smart Grid System will ensure that Communication, IT and Power Technologies will work together to establish a comprehensive power infrastructure. Smart grids are sophisticated, digitally enhanced power systems where the use of modern communications and control technologies allows much greater robustness, efficiency and flexibility than today’s power systems.
Smart grids technology is now taking it’s step towards becoming a reality in India. However there are still many challenges such infrastructure, human resources, technology readiness and many more, which needs to be addressed. There are various initiatives being launched by the government such as R-APDRP and the launch of the India Smart Grid Task Force under the leadership of Sam Pitroda, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovation. This is the first initiative of its kind in the power sector, in New Delhi. This task force will be the key group for all smart grid related activities.
The IET aims to bring together the smart grids technology solutions providers, utilities and the entire ecosystem of smart grids together to discuss the next steps involved in making the smart grids a reality in India, understand the infrastructure and technology challenges, the available technologies, regulatory and policy framework and key learnings from the projects executed overseas.
