"This year we hold the 8th IET System Safety conference in Cardiff, Wales' capital city where you'll find unique attractions, top class entertainment and quality shopping all within walking distance. In Cardiff, innovative architecture sits alongside historic buildings and Cardiff Bay offers countless dining and entertainment options for everyone in a modern and exciting setting.

"The conference venue this year will be the Radisson Blu which has outstanding conference facilities and is conveniently located in the heart of Cardiff city centre. Travelling to Cardiff could not be easier: the international airport is a short bus or taxi-ride away from the conference venue and it has frequent direct flights and rail connections from Europe and other parts of the United Kingdom.

"With the current gloomy financial climate I know that everyone has to think hard before allocating funds to attend conferences therefore our continued aim is to ensure that we provide maximum value for money for all delegates. With that in mind, our Technical Programme Committee are working hard to put together an interesting and high quality programme and we already have some excellent keynote speakers and exhibitors lined up for you.

"Following positive feedback from last year's delegates, I'm delighted to confirm that the System Safety Conference will continue to incorporate Cyber Security as there remains much in common between the two disciplines. Indeed, on Tuesday 15 October 2013 the conference will provide a number of tutorials including two entitled: An Introduction to System Safety and An Introduction to Cyber Security to give delegates a chance to gain a foundation in either discipline before the main conference begins. Throughout the conference System Safety and Cyber Security presentations will be scheduled to enable delegates to choose to attend presentations dedicated to a single discipline or they can move freely between both.

"As in previous years there will be lots of opportunities during the conference for networking with other safety professionals; in particular we have a Networking Event on the first evening of the main conference (Wednesday 16 October 2013 ) which has proven very popular in the past. Of course no conference would be a success without the presenters and delegates so I hope that you’ll be able to join us in Cardiff in October for what promises to be an valuable experience for all professionals with an interest in System Safety and Cyber Security."

The IET Transport Sector is working with the organisers of the System Safety Conference to deliver something unique – a high quality publication entitled ‘Security and Risk in Transport Systems and Infrastructure (cyber and physical) to be launched at the 2013 conference.

This publication will appeal to all those with a technical interest in the field of cyber security in transport systems and infrastructure.
