Full Paper Instructions

Submitting Your Full Paper

General Information

Instructions were attached to your registration email. This is a Microsoft Word file which is designed to ensure that your paper is prepared in the right way for publication. If you are submitting more than one paper you can use the same email address and password for each paper.

  • Each paper must be typed using single spacing using 10 point characters. Only Times, Times Roman, Times New Roman and Symbol fonts are accepted.
  • Each paper must be a maximum of 4 pages long.

Updating Your Submission

You may wish to change your answers to some of the questions on the submission form, or to update the paper file itself.

  1. Log in to the submission system
  2. You will see a list of the papers that you have submitted. Click on the paper that you wish to change.
  3. The process of amending a paper is the same as the original submission process, except that the submission form will be automatically filled in with the answers that you gave previously – you don’t have to change an answer if you don’t want to.
  4. If you want to change your paper file you can click the “Browse” button to locate the revised file on your PC’s hard disk, then click “Next” to send it to the paper system. If you don’t want to change the file, just press “Next” to bypass this step.
  5. When you reach the final step and press “Finish” you will be sent an email confirming that your paper has been amended – provided you have answered all the mandatory questions.

Full Paper – Presentation - Visual Aids

For Wireless Mobile & Multimedia Networks we will only permit the use of PowerPoint presentations. If you have any further requirements please contact the Event Organisers at eventsa2@theiet.org prior to the conference to ensure that there are facilities in place to support your presentation.

Please note that the Laptop within the Lecture Theatre is installed with the following software:
Windows 2000 and PowerPoint 2000.

Note:

To allow us to load your presentation on to the lecture theatre equipment in advance, we would be grateful if you forward us your presentation slides as an email PowerPoint attachment by Friday, 21 December 2007. Please use your unique paper number when emailing us. This will save you time and aid the smooth running of your talk on the day.

The Institution of Engineering & Technology cannot be held responsible if authors arrive at the time of presentation with an incompatible presentation. Please contact the Event Organisers as soon as possible with any queries regarding audio-visual aids.

Useful Presentation Tips

Do Not Put Too Much Information on Visual Aids:

  • A maximum of six or seven lines including the title (not more than 20 words).
  • Avoid abbreviations, mathematics and tables of results (graphs or histograms are much better).
  • Lettering should be lowercase, medium or bold and at least

“this size” (Arial 22)

  • Never Use - computer printouts
    photocopied pages of books
    hand-drawn transparencies
  • Keep diagrams as simple as possible
  • Company logos, if used, should be of a modest size

Authors Briefings

Ten minutes before each session, a meeting will be held in the Council Chamber where you will be presenting your paper, so that the Technician can demonstrate the use of the various facilities, as these may not be straightforward. It is essential that you attend the Briefing Meeting.

Arrangements for handling discussion will be confirmed by your Session Chairman during the Briefing at the Conference.

Withdrawing a Paper

If you want to withdraw a paper please contact the conference administrator.

Working Language

The working language of the conference is English, which will be used for all printed material, presentations and discussions.

Oral Presentation Authors Only

Each author presenting an ORAL paper will be asked to submit PowerPoint slides (in MS PowerPoint 2000 or XP) in advance of the conference. Authors will be asked to include their unique paper number with their email. The slides will be loaded onto the computer prior to the relevant session. Delegates should bring a copy of their slides on CD/Memory Stick with them to the Conference as a back up.

PowerPoint Presentation Guidelines will be posted on the website nearer the time.

Poster Presentation Authors Only

In addition to your written paper included in the Conference publication, the poster session is your opportunity to present your work directly to other registrants and to discuss it with them. It is a particularly useful format for small group discussion and debate.

Try to attract the registrants to your poster. Unless they come to it, you cannot expect to have a discussion with them. The display should therefore be visually appealing and should contain the essence of your paper in a form that is easy to understand.

Your display should consist chiefly of keywords, diagrams, photographs, etc. Colour photographs are particularly attractive in a poster display. Diagrams and graphs should have clear captions. All lettering should be easy to read. Handwritten text or diagrams are not recommended. All graphs and diagrams should be drawn with thick lines (preferably 1mm or more in width). Use colour to emphasise important features.

The poster display is important. You are recommended to take as much trouble with it as you did in preparing your written paper.

Your Poster Display

You should clearly display the following information on your poster board:

  • The title of your paper
  • The authors’ names and their affiliations
  • Your usual contact details (e.g. an email address) to allow delegates to follow up discussion.
Display board sizes will be confirmed near the end of the year.

Your Display Board

A display board approximately 2 metres high and 1metre wide will be provided for your poster display. If you are pre-preparing your poster as one large sheet, please ensure that it is in Portrait format. If you require any other equipment please contact the organisers who will do their best to help.
