Travel award winners 2018 - 2019

Travel Awards of up to £500 are available to IET members. 

Naomi Foster  

Naomi Foster travelled to India for a research project/visit with the Oxford University Without Borders group. She was away from 7 - 14 April and you can read her report here.

Glen Gowers is flying to Reykjavik, Iceland on 14 April for a research project/visit to study the microbial life in glaciers.  He will be travelling in a team of three and will return on 20 May. You can read his report on his return.

Ozak Esu will travel to Malawi on 10 May with a team of 22 Engineers from the UK.  The Women's Engineering Expedition will return on 27 May and you can read her report on her return.

Catherine Menon will be travelling to Valencia, Spain at the end of March 2019 to attend the The Ninth International Conference on Performance, Safety and Robustness in Complex Systems and Applications (PESARO 2019).  Please read her report on her return.


William Navaraj travelled to New Delhi and Jaipur between 27 October & 16 November 2018 to present his research on tactile sensitive prosthesis.  He attended the IEEE Sensors Conference in New Delhi.  Please read his report here.


Tom Cane attended the 15th IEEE International Conference on Advanced Video and Signal-based Surveillance in New Zealand.  He travelled to the Auckland University of Technology from 27 - 30 November 2018. Read his report here.


Giorgia Longobardi attended the IEEE 2018 Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway, Ship Propulsion and Road Vehicles (ESARS) and International Transportation Electrification Conference (ITEC) in the UK.  She travelled from Japan to the UK from 7 - 9 November 2018. Please read her report here.

Rhiannon Lees travelled to Japan to present a paper at the IRMMW - THz 2018 conference, in the Nagoya Congress Center, Nagoya, Japan.  She was away from 9 - 14 September 2018, please read her report here.


Haroon Chughtai travelled to Australia to undertake a 7-week research placement in the Patient Safety team in the Centre for Health Informatics.  This is part of the Australian Institute of Health Innovation at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. He left the UK on 21 September 2018 and you can read his report here.

Sohaib Aslam travelled to the University of Skovde, Sweden for the International Conference on Manufacturing Research (ICMR)-2018.
