The Institution of Engineering and Technology Fundraising
Did you know?
Savoy Place is an incredible building with a rich history. The foundation stone was laid by Queen Victoria and was originally used as an examination hall for the Royal college of Surgeons!
The IEE bought the lease over 100 years ago and so the history of the IET being at Savoy Place began!
About your donation
Please read the following information before proceeding to the Virgin Money Giving site to make your donation.
Name a Seat
For a £1,500 one-off payment you can have a seat plaque with your name or the name of someone special affixed to the back of one of the iconic auditorium seats, up to the next seat refurbishment, in recognition of your donation.
You will also have your name engraved on the Foundation Wall (see section below) in the Entrance Hall at The IET Headquarters, 2 Savoy Place, London, WC2R 0BL.
You can have up to 30 characters (including spaces) on the Foundation Wall and on each seat plaque, such as “William Webb FIET”. The IET reserves the right to edit or remove names at our reasonable discretion if they are not deemed suitable.
Following receipt of your donation and confirmation of the wording that you want to see on the wall and seat plaque, it may take up to three months for them to be installed. We will also send you or the recipient of the gift, a certificate with the confirmed wording to be used.
We are not able to offer you a particular seat or lecture theatre – these will be chosen for you in the order we receive them. The Kelvin Lecture Theatre (ground floor) will be allocated first, followed by the Turing Lecture Theatre (second floor). If you purchase multiple seats these will be situated next to each other wherever possible, however this cannot be guaranteed.
Naming a seat does not include admission to individual lectures or events or guarantee allocation of that seat for a particular performance.
The number of seats available is strictly limited to 626, on a first-come first-served basis. If the seats sell out before we receive your donation, you will have the choice of a full refund or the opportunity to receive a foundation block at a cost of £750 with the balance refunded.
If all the seat plaques and foundation blocks are sold out before we receive your donation, your donation will be refunded in full.
For a £750 one-off payment you can have your name or the name of someone special engraved on a foundation block on our unique Foundation Wall that will be located in the Entrance Hall at The IET Headquarters, 2 Savoy Place, London, WC2R 0BL.
The name can be up to 30 characters and it will be engraved onto a perspex foundation block and displayed on the backlit Foundation Wall. The block may take up to three months to be installed following receipt of the donation and naming details, and will be for the lifetime of the Foundation Wall. We will also send you or the recipient of the gift, a certificate with the confirmed wording to be used.
The number of foundation blocks available is strictly limited to 1,000, on a first-come first-served basis. If the foundation blocks sell out before we receive your donation, this will be refunded in full.
The IET reserves the right to turn down any name for a seat plaque or foundation block, or subsequently remove the name, at its reasonable discretion, on grounds including but not limited to protection of the IET’s reputation or non-payment of the full amount.
In the first instance, The IET will contact any donor impacted by this to try to resolve the issue. If an acceptable name cannot be agreed, any donations paid will be refunded.
Donations should be made through the IET’s Take Your Place Virgin Money Giving page and will be processed by Virgin Money Giving and not the IET as this is the most cost effective method. Virgin Money Giving deducts 2% from your donation for this service plus 1.45% card processing fee (1.6% for American Express and PayPal), which also includes processing Gift Aid.
Over the telephone or personal visit credit card payments unfortunately cannot be accepted.
Please note any information entered on the Virgin Money Giving site will not be used for updating IET records (if you have one) and will be used by the IET only in connection with the Take Your Place Campaign.
